September Group Meetings

Balham Day Group Meeting

Tuesday 6th Sept, 10-11:30am, followed by a drop-in service until 1pm

This session will focus on ‘pacing’, or how to look after ourselves and plan activities to suit our abilities and achieve our aims in the time we have available to us.

Wimbledon Group Meeting

We are looking forward to seeing you all back at the Wimbledon meetings following the summer break in August. We have a guest speaker from Imperial College London joining us on the 13th Sept to talk about current research and TBI.

Croydon Group Meeting

Wednesday 21st Sept, 7:30-9pm

Following the summer break, we will discuss the impact of a brain injury on everyday life. We will also identify topics you would like covered in future groups.

Richmond Group Meeting

Thursday 22nd Sept, 7:30-9pm

This month, the Richmond group will be meeting after the summer break on the usual 4th Thursday of the month – the 22nd September – where we will be joined by Jo Anderson from the Citizens Advice Bureau at St George’s Hospital. She will be available to answer questions and discuss any points people may wish to raise around benefits, work access and other topics in the social services arena.
We look forward to welcoming back existing members and meeting new members.

July Group Meetings

July’s meeting will be all about understanding stress; we will be talking about the signs, symptoms and causes of stress, as well as ways of coping. Hopefully the sun will be shining for us!

Wimbledon Group Meeting

At July’s Wimbledon meeting we will talk about returning to work following a brain injury; the benefits of this and any challenges members face with returning to their job whilst managing ongoing symptoms or difficulties. We will also discuss disclosing information about your injury and how/when it is beneficial to do so. If you’re not in work, please still come along as many of these themes cross over into everyday life.

If getting back to work or looking at voluntary work opportunities are of interest we can discuss possible ways to get involved. Hope to see many of you there!

This month we will discuss memory. How does our memory work? Come along and share your tips and strategies to help with memory.

Richmond Group Meeting

Dr Lucia Li from Imperial College London will be coming to speak about TBI research. This should be a fascinating topic, so please attend if you can.

Things we can help with include:

  • Advice on aspects of ABI
  • Advice on how to access services
  • Reassurance and support
  • SignpostingAdvice and support around benefits, help completing forms
  • Help finding leisure and voluntary opportunities

The next drop-in session is on Tuesday 5th July from 11:30 am at Balham Library.

June Group Meetings

Following last month’s session on fatigue, we will be talking more about
sleep and sleep problems. We will also look at ways to enrich our sleep.

June’s Wimbledon meeting will be our Annual General Meeting. If you’d like to find out about what HSWL has been doing over the past year, or contribute your ideas for the future, please come along. All welcome – the meeting will be followed by pizza!

Richmond Group Meeting

We will discuss what challenging behaviour some people may present with after a brain injury, ways to help others support them to manage this and strategies for you to control your behaviour towards others. This will be an informal group, with some background information given, tips and advice, but plenty of time for discussion and haring of ideas with each other. The group will be lead by Sue in Laura’s absence. She looks forward to seeing you all.
