July Family & Friends Yoga Session

I hope everyone is well. Thanks to everyone who came along to last week’s lunch, it was great to catch up. In July we’re planning on another yoga session.

The session will be run by Alex especially for our carers group, suitable for all abilities and with plenty of relaxation. It will be a great opportunity to try some yoga in a supportive environment so please do come along whatever your experience. Please ensure you wear comfortable clothing, mats are provided. The session is open to any carer, relative or friend of a person affected by a brain injury.

June Group Meetings

Wimbledon Group Meeting

Sharon Clark from the Merton Voluntary Service Council will be coming to talk about volunteering and its benefits. The service offers support to those individuals who would like to volunteer but who have challenges due to their physical, cognitive or psychological difficulties. Come along to find out more about the range of volunteering opportunities available in the borough.

Come along to this month’s Croydon Group for a social evening. There will be pizzas and drink to share among the group.

Fatigue is one of the most common problems people have after a brain injury. As many as 70% of survivors of TBI complain of fatigue. Come along to our next group on the 25th June to join in with our educational and informal discussion meeting about fatigue management.

New ABI statistics from Headway UK

StatsInfographic1-stopwatchesTo mark Action for Brain Injury Week, Headway UK have launched the first dataset on all ABI-related hospital admissions in the UK. These include non-superficial head injuries, strokes, brain tumours, encephalitis, and a variety of additional conditions.

The figures show a concerning growth in the number of people sustaining injuries to the brain each year, particularly among females, where the number being admitted to hospitals in the UK with non-superficial head injuries has risen by a shocking 24% since 2005-06.
