Congratulations to Becky Newman, trustee of HSWL, who has been named as one of only three people from across the UK competing for the title of Campaigner of the Year in the annual awards run by Headway UK!
Becky ran the North Pole marathon in 2012 and raised almost £9,000 for Headway South West London. Not content with that, Becky also plans to run the Great Wall of China Marathon and the South Pole Marathon in 2013, while 2014 will see her taking on the infamous Marathon des Sables. It’s a 180km run across the Sahara Desert and generally considered to be the toughest foot race on Earth.
The Campaigner of the Year will be named at a glittering ceremony at The Dorchester Hotel in London on 7 December, along with awards for the Volunteer, Carer and Achiever of the Year, and the Stephen McAleese Outstanding Contribution to Headway Award.
Headway South West London put together an information sheet on local services for the support group meeting in August 2012.
The document provides information about local services in Merton, Croydon, Wimbledon, Kingston and Richmond and is now available to download here.
Please note, it is only a basic list and provides mainly website addresses and contact telephone numbers and addresses to get further information.
Headway South West London are pleased to invite you to a quiz night on Wednesday 21 November, at the Bricklayer’s Arms in Putney
Our aim is to raise £3000 on the night to help brain injured people and their families and carers in South West London.
There will be fantastic raffle prizes on sale on the night and cash prize for the winning team! Included in the price of your ticket will be a free drink on arrival and nibbles/canapes.
Becky Newman is the quiz host and landlady of The Bricklayer’s Arms. Earlier this year she successfully completed the North Pole Marathon to help raise funds for HSWL. Becky has pledged to donate £1 for every drink purchased after your first free drink to HSWL.
Our Quiz Master Keith Hawley formally trained as a nurse and has worked in Brain Injury Services for the last 30 years. He is involved locally and nationally with UKABIF, BISWG, BABICM and Headway Groups. Keith is also town crier for his local village and quiz master at his local pub.
