Traumatic brain injury (TBI) can lead to long-lasting difficulties not only physically but cognitively. Around a third of individuals with TBI will develop major depression, limiting recovery and causing significant long term problems. Researchers at the Traumatic brain injury unit, Imperial College London, are currently trying to understand the causes of depression following TBI in the hopes of improving treatment and intervention. They are seeking individuals aged between 18-65 who have experienced a traumatic brain injury and have either gone on to develop depression or not.
They are therefore interested in reaching out to brain injury survivors who may be interested in taking part. These could be people with or without depression following their injury. The study involves a brief screening visit (lasting approximately 1 hour) and then a single study day where participants would complete some cognitive tests as well as an MRI and PET scan.
